National Youth Leadership Training What is NYLT?

NYLT (NATIONAL YOUTH LEADERSHIP TRAINING) is a six-day advanced leadership course designed to teach Scouts the tools, techniques, and skills they need to be better leaders – not only in their units, but also at home, in school, and in their daily lives. Led by an exemplary, highly-trained youth staff, NYLT participants work hard and play hard together through group activities, games, and adventures designed around a backpacking experience.

The NYLT course is arranged so that it represents the structure and activity cycle of a well run Scouting unit. Content is delivered in both troop and patrol settings with an emphasis on immediate application of learning in a fun environment. Interconnecting concepts and work processes are introduced and built upon through the use of memory aids which allow youth to understand and employ leadership skills quicker.
