Aquatics

The council Aquatics Program utilizes a 100 acre lake (Lake Calhoun), at the Mecklenburg Scout Reservation (Camp Grimes), in Nebo, NC and a pool and small lake at Belk Scout Camp in Midland, NC. The skills we teach will help Scouts stay safe, and help others stay safe near, or on, any body of water.

Scouts beginning with the Lion program can participate in aquatic activities at both Belk Scout Camp and Camp Grimes. During the summer, our Cub Scout day camps, Webelos Resident Camps, and Scouts BSA camps hear roaring laughter as Scouts swim and boat while learning basic aquatic safety skills.  Many Scouts also earn the Swimming and Lifesaving merit badges at the Belk pool.

Safe Swim Defense and Safety Afloat

The Boy Scouts of America requires at least one adult leader to first complete the Safe Swim Defense and Safety Afloat training courses before planning or conducting a water activity. You can take these two courses online by logging in to My.Scouting.org.

Paddle Craft Safety

Paddle Craft Safety provides adult and youth Scouts 15-years and older guidelines for safe float trips and expands Safety Afloat training to include the skills, as well as the knowledge, needed for a unit leader to supervise canoeing or kayaking excursions.

The motto of the Boy Scouts, Be Prepared, applies to all aspects of scouting in our council including Aquatics!
