ATV 2023 Fall and 2024 Spring Program at Mecklenburg Scout Reservation

You Just Might Get Dirty!

Mecklenburg Country Council will be offering the 2023 Fall and 2024 Spring ATV program. You can schedule or get more information by contacting Joe Culpepper at jculpepper@carolina.rr.com.

There are two programs offered: effective 5/1/23.

The standard 8-hour class will give the rider the opportunity to earn ASI Trained Rider Card and ride some of the camp trails. Each rider will complete a 4.5-hour hands on rider class at the ATV field. The classes start at 8:00 am on Saturday. All instruction is completed in class on the ATV field at Mecklenburg Scout Reservation.

Online and hands on at the ATV field at Mecklenburg Scout Reservation. Each rider completes a 2-hour online class. Print out the certificate and bring it to the ASI Instructor who will conduct the 2.5 field training. After class completion, riders will ride the ATV trails as a group.

For all classes, Scouts must be 14 years of age. If you are 14 years of age and less than 16 years of age, you cannot weigh more than 187 pounds and cannot be more than 6 feet tall. You must bring long pants, long sleeve shirt and over ankle boots. Helmets, goggles, gloves, ATV, and fuel will be provided. Each Scout must have their parent complete a required permission slip and MCC Covid-19 form. If a Scout cannot master the skills to move to the next level, he or she will be removed from the class with no refund. The ASI Instructor is the person who makes the final decision on a person’s ability to ride. ATV program runs rain or shine. Max class is 6 or 8 riders depending on the age of the Scouts. To hold a class, there must be five Scouts. The unit must provide one leader over 21 years of age to take the class and ride with the class. Part of the class is for Scouts to learn and do maintenance on the ATV.

The cost of the class is $75.00 per rider. After completion of the class, the group can schedule a half day ride on Sunday for $40.00 per rider. Any Scout or leader who has completed the ASI Camp Class can ride on this day.

Unit – Each unit will need to have two deep leadership in camp at all times. Each unit is responsible for their own food for the time at camp. Units will need to logon to the MSR Reservation website and register for a camp site if the unit is staying overnight.

Cancellation – Program is subject to be cancelled if the minimum number of Scouts do not sign up for the program.

Program days and times can be adjusted to match the needs of the unit. Contact Joe Culpepper at jculpepper@carolina.rr.com to schedule and answer any questions.
