WHAT IS SPECIAL INITIATIVES?
The Special Initiatives Division is made up of three districts, each designed to serve specific markets.
Pueblo – “Home”
Focuses on at –risk / low income youth from across the county. Programs have changed over time but largely target community based organizations that can provide meeting space and /or volunteers to support Cub, Boy and Venturing programs.
Waholi – “Eagle”
Focuses on Latino and other immigrant communities countywide. The Scouting through Soccer (STS) program continues to be a major draw and success for the division and council. The majority of units in the district participate in the soccer league owned and operated by the council. Through staff and volunteers, we host two ten week seasons annually. Scouts participate in summer camps and other scouting activities. The focus remains on providing a quality program with a greater emphasis on scout skills.
Wunita – “On who is able”
Focuses on youth and adult with disabilities. We provide a variety of resources to the council and community through staff led venturing programs, learning for life day camps, to assist traditional units to be more accommodating of youth with disabilities in their respective scouting programs.
