Short description (from NRA): Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for the safe use of a rifle in target shooting.

Description (from NRA): This course includes classroom and range time learning to shoot rifles. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; rifle parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest, prone, sitting, standing and kneeling positions; cleaning, and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Rifle Shooting Student Examination, and receive a course completion certificate.

Why: This course is the first step on the path to becoming an NRA Rifle Instructor, which is the ONLY credential that allows our youth to participate at .22 rifle ranges, like the one at Camp Grimes, or the Air Rifle (pellet) range at Belk Scout Camp. In order to continue providing this activity, we need more adults to complete this training. You do not need to be an experienced or proficient shooter, but a little experience does help. You will be taught everything you need to know in this course to be successful.
