Scouter's Backpack Newsletter - November 2022

As we head into the Holiday Season we would like to express our GRATITUDE for your continued support and leadership. We appreciate every member of our Scouting family!

We hope you can join in one or more of our fall activities or just get out and enjoy the great camping weather.

However you are kicking off your Holiday Season take a moment to count all the things you are grateful for!

Well done volunteers!

Thank you for your effort in this year's fall recruitment. We have recently recruited over 1,000 new Scouts in Mecklenburg County Council.

Leaders, make sure you turn in all your new youth and adult applications to the Scout Office in a timely manner. Also, unit key 3 leaders should follow up with all invitation and application manager leads that have generated from BeAScout.org.

Many thanks to Patrick Short, VP of Membership for his leadership and marketing skills. This year has truly been an awesome recruiting experience.

If you need more marketing materials or still need more youth, reach out to your District Executive for assistance. Great job EVERYONE!!!

Scouting. For Fun! Prepared. For Life.

Eagle Project Opportunities

Niner University Elementary (NUE) School, located at 2414 Lester Street, needs Eagle projects to develop an outdoor classroom and eating area. The students will appreciate projects to construct and install benches, tables, and picnic tables. A possibly unique feature of these projects will be constructing the furniture in smaller-than-normal sizes appropriate for the young children who attend NUE. For more information, please contact the NUE principal Pamela Broome.

Are you looking for an Eagle Project Opportunity for a Scout? Rea Farms STEAM Academy is a new CMS K-8 school that opened last year in South Charlotte. As a new school, it doesn't have a lot of stuff that kids would like and appreciate (and frankly need for mental health) like good older recess equipment (Swings, Gaga ball pit, or other outdoor equipment). The school is new and does not have a heritage of Scouts, Eagle projects are needed. If interested, please contact Dayna Perkowski-Galdun.

TRAINING

Mecklenburg County Council has adopted a 100% Trained policy to ensure every Scout has a trained leader. All registered leaders, including non-uniform leaders such as committee members, must complete position training.

For merit badge counselors, the deadline is this December's renewal.

For unit leaders, it is rechartering in 2023.

Don't delay! Log in to My.Scouting and complete your position training today.

Baden-Powell's dream of a permanent Jamboree in the Swiss Alps has been a reality for nearly 100 years. Kandersteg will celebrate its centenary in 2023 and would like Scouts and Venturers from the USA to join them for a birthday celebration. The anniversary will last all year, but will focus on Kander100, a mini-Jamboree from 28 July to 7 August, 2023.

Leave a Scouting Legacy

Have you thought about putting the Boy Scouts in your estate plans? Contact us.

With the help of your advisor, you can include language in your will or trust specifying a gift to be made to the Mecklenburg County Council, BSA. In fact, you can even designate support for a specific purpose like camp scholarships, the endowment, or capital projects.

A retirement asset like an IRA or 401(k) makes an excellent option to maximize giving and minimize taxes.
