What Cub Scouts Is About

Cub Scouts is a safe and active program for boys and girls in kindergarten through fifth grade and their families that encourages learning, friendship — and most of all — getting out and having fun!  Your child will join with others in the same grade in a “den” led by the parents and have a handbook of adventures. All of the Cub Scouts and families in the dens make up the “pack” also led by parents. With an emphasis on outdoor events, small gatherings, and activities with family, Cub Scouts is a great way to let your kids safely socialize, learn, and have fun.

When you join Cub Scouts, there’s always something to do and learn for the whole family.

• Meet new friends

In addition to national registration fees, your pack will address costs for awards, uniforms, events and other items. Talk with your pack leadership if any aspect of Scouting is beyond your financial means. 

 

Frequently Asked Questions About Cub Scouts

There are typically three types of meetings in Cub Scouting. Pack Meetings – A Pack meeting may focus on a specific Cub Scout Adventure, it may be an activity such as a bike rodeo, or even a campout. Packs typically meet once a month, but the frequency of Pack meetings can be adjusted to best meet the needs of the families in the pack. Den Meetings – Dens are smaller groups of Cub Scouts, usually the same grade level. Den on average either meets twice a month or weekly. The frequency of den meetings is up to the den leader and the families in the den. Parent or Pack Committee Meeting – These are recommended to be held once a month and is a time for parents and leaders to plan the upcoming den and pack meetings.
Scouting is a volunteer-led organization where parents become the volunteer leadership that organizes and delivers the program. For the Cub Scout program (Kindergarten – 5th Grade) parents are encouraged to attend and participate. For Kindergarten (Lions) and 1st Grade (Tigers) an adult partner, who is often the parent, is required to be in attendance with the Cub Scout at all meetings and activities.
The unit may provide assistance to families. Some units operate a uniform exchange or uniform bank, or they may hold fund-raisers to enable the boys or girls to earn their uniforms. Also, some units will award boys or girls rank-specific uniform components (hat and neckerchief) and/or the program books that the Scout needs each year — so parents should inquire as to what the unit provides before purchasing the items themselves.
