Leadership Traning for Troops, Crews and Ships

Introduction to Leadership Skills (ILS) is a unit-level leadership course conducted by each troop, crew, or ship for its own youth leaders. The course prepares Scouts serving in leadership positions to understand their responsibilities and succeed in their roles by developing practical organizational, communication, and leadership skills. As the first course in Scouting America's leadership development continuum, ILS provides the foundation for future leadership growth and replaces the former Leadership Training course. Every unit is responsible for ensuring its youth leaders complete ILS, and successful completion is required before Scouts may attend advanced leadership programs such as National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) and the National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience (NAYLE).
