Dear Boy Scouts, scout leaders and family members:
Congratulations to the Boy Scouts for 100 years of building leaders for your community, North Carolina and the nation. I look forward to a new generation of leaders that will come from your ranks to help build a better North Carolina.
It was an honor to meet many of you during the 100th anniversary celebration in Raleigh last week. But I know there are thousands more who have also accomplished great things. I’m especially proud of your commitment to community service. During these tough times it’s more important than ever to give back to the community, and the Boy Scouts are a shining example.
Over the past year, the First Gentleman and I have made a personal commitment to community service. We’ve read to schoolchildren - served hot meals to the homeless and elderly — and we planted a vegetable garden to benefit the local soup kitchen. Now it’s your turn to help make North Carolina a better place by serving your communities - and serving North Carolina.
Another way to serve North Carolina is participating in government and sharing your best ideas. You can find me on Facebook and I encourage you to participate in the dialogue on issues critical to North Carolinians. I’ve also posted some photos from the 100th Anniversary Celebration.
Thank you for all that you do for North Carolina,
Governor Bev Perdue
