DESCRIPTION:This 16 hour course will introduce the participant to skills necessary to handle basic first aid emergencies in a wilderness setting. The course combines lecture with hands-on application of material covered in class. Successful completion of this course certifies the student in WFA for a period of two years and meets the requirements for Philmont and other high adventure camps.\n\nSome of the topics covered include:\n\n    What is wilderness first aid?\n    Patient assessment.\n    Airway management.\n    Hemorrhage control.\n    Shock management.\n    Improvised splinting techniques.\n    Litter construction and carries.\n    Scenario based practice sessions.\n\nNotes: Arrive in Class A, we will switch to field uniform for outside training and practice.  Bring a water bottle, backpack minus food and fuel, and hiking poles if you have them. You will need to provide lunch, dinner and snacks for Saturday and snacks for Sunday.
