DESCRIPTION:This 16 hour course, for Scouts at least 14 years of age and at least First Class, will introduce the participant to the skills necessary to handle basic first aid emergencies in a wilderness setting. The course combines lecture with hands-on application of material covered in class. Successful completion of this course certifies the student in WFA for a period of two years and meets the requirements for Philmont and other high adventure camps.\n\nSome of the topics covered include:\n\n    What is wilderness first aid?\n    Patient assessment.\n    Airway management.\n    Hemorrhage control.\n    Shock management.\n    Improvised splinting techniques.\n    Litter construction and carries.\n    Scenario based practice sessions.\n\nNotes: Arrive in Class A, we will switch to field uniform for outside training and practice.  Bring a water bottle, backpack packed for a weekend trip, and hiking poles if you have them. You will need to provide lunch and snacks for Saturday and snacks for Sunday.
